My passion for graphic design was sparked during my initial exposure to the discipline, while taking a class on the “Foundations of Graphic Design”. Although the initial learning curve was steep, as it was a new skill set that I had yet to explore, my experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop soon became a source of inspiration. As I worked on my projects, a sense of creative fulfillment emerged, and I found myself taking pride in my ability to produce high-quality work from scratch. My love for graphic design grew with every project, exercise, and assignment, and I have since pursued further training through advanced courses such as “Media Design,” where I continue to develop my skills and produce even more exceptional graphic design content. I plan to learn more about graphic design throughout the rest of my time at UNC and hope to use this skill beyond college as well.
Portfolio
I created this portfolio in my first graphic design class. It encompasses all of the projects I created over the semester and includes stories from my personal life. The portfolio is a testament to my growth as a graphic designer, and it serves as a tangible representation of the skills and abilities that I have acquired throughout the course of my first semester of experience. The theme of my portfolio was the relationship between weather and emotions. Each spread is representative of a different type of weather that correlates to a specific emotion or experience in my life.
Projects
Below are several samples of graphics I have produced during the course of my studies in media design. The first is a promotional poster that was conceptualized for an imaginary museum exhibition in New York City. The second and third graphics, on the other hand, are innovative takes on SZA’s most recent album ‘SOS’ presented in the guise of an album cover and promotional poster, respectively. The final artwork is an editorial illustration that explores the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the world of art. All projects have been produced using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Magazine
I produced a bilingual magazine on sustainable fashion, utilizing the advanced design software, InDesign, to meticulously format each spread and carefully arrange the text. As a designer, I faced the task of striking a harmonious balance between two languages throughout the publication. Although the articles were not authored by me, I meticulously curated their placement and format to effectively communicate the narrative of sustainable fashion. While the majority of the images used in the magazine were stock photography, I personally crafted the map, infographic, and front and back cover designs using Illustrator and Photoshop. The overall aim of this publication is to embody a refined, editorial aesthetic that is both visually pleasing and engaging.
